[Lichen + (Doilies × Moss)] ÷ Eco-Friendly = Ottoman

Jun 21st, 2009 Posted in I ♥ Handmade | no comment »

Welcome to the world of Oregon Etsean and artisan Ottoman!  I just fell in love with her creations and loved the simplicity of the design.  I personally love lichen and moss and think of them as tiny little worlds all on their own (imagine, me obsessed with something on a small scale???!).  When I see Ottoman’s creations, I just want to run off and take a hike through a forest high up in the mountains!  She also uses environmentally friendly crafting materials and and shops local for her supplies.  I ordered one of her pincushions for a friend’s present and she sent me an amazing brooch!  It’s too cute and the best part is that it’s filled with lavender, which is one of my favorite herbs, and smells fantastic.

Lichen Brooch with Lavendar

Ottoman also makes the cutest barettes, her pincusions are amazing and with those mushroom pins, they’re even better!  Also, don’t forget to check out her moss and lichen for your wall.

However, the ones I’m in awe of are her hand-painted doilies that spell out significant words such as your name!  For lack of a better descriptor, these are just awesome.  I think it would be fun to get some that spell out some not-so-nice words and hang them in your bathroom!  Hmmmm…

My Newest Favoritest Thing

Jun 20th, 2009 Posted in Just Stuff | no comment »

Jay and I were doing some errands today and I wanted to run by Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster (my absolute favoritest art supply store in all of SoCal!!!!) to get some resin to start a whole ‘nother batch of new projects.  Well, they had an indie art and craft fair with about ten vendors or so.  I squealed to Jay while clapping my hands, “Look a handmade event!!!!” so we took a peek.  Staring out at me from tons of cute stuff was a framed painting of ham, a Black Forest Ham to be exact, painted by Eric October.  This painting spoke to me.  It was like “Buy me… you know you want me… and aren’t you hungry for a ham sandwich right now?” Well, I bought it and my only regret was that I didn’t get the turkey painting or the steak painting.  Maybe they didn’t sell? (deviously wringing hands)

I made it to the Front Page of Etsy!!!!

Jun 19th, 2009 Posted in Just Stuff | no comment »

So cool – my humble little hot dogs made it to the front page this morning!  This is my first time making it to the front page!!!   I totally missed it while getting ready and driving to work this morning, but I found a screenshot from Etsy Front Pagers on Flickr and posted it to my Flickr site.

My First Ever Front Page - WHOO HOO!!!

Update – I just got a message from EtsyFrontPagers and she said that I was also on the front page back in January, 10th, 2009.  I kept wondering why that black birdcage necklace with the tiny polymer clay cardinal kept getting so many views – I think by the time it sold a week later after listing, it had almost 1,000 views.

Teapot Necklace

Windblown Wishes Generosity

Blogger and creative-creator (I think that’s what you call an artist/cook/gardener/dreamer/lover of kitties!) Phydelle is hosting a giveaway and has a great interview with Kateri from Leaves of Glass and urban legend (yeah, you heard right, two shops!!!).  Reading the interview, Kateri’s crafting life mimics my own but she has summer months off… maybe I should switch careers to the education system?!?  Kateri’s work is mod/natural/simple/organic/art deco/vintage/new and I just love the design and thought that went into each piece.  For more details on the giveaway click here.  By the way, read the interview and somewhere is a 15% off code for Kateri’s shop – another two-part generous offer in one place and so very worth it!

I was on Jeopardy!!!!!!

Jun 6th, 2009 Posted in Just Stuff | no comment »

Well… part of the Jeopardy “live studio audience” actually. But hey, no one can say I wasn’t on the show even if it was only the back of my head. Here’s proof! ☺ The funny part is that Alex Trebek is kind of like a grown up teenager that can drink – chardonnay of course – and has a secret crush on Julianne Moore! I’m the blonde on the right, my best friend Navdeep is sitting to my left, Jay is next, and his grandma is last (grandpa is behind the guy with the big head).  This was actually the funniest part of the show, the little girl that is behind us—you can only see the top of her ponytail—totally farted during the break between two shows.  I thought Navdeep and Jay were going to die laughing!
