…from my Etsy and Flickr friends that share the same passion about making all food in a teeny tiny size and then wanting to wear it!  All of these artisans are extremely creative and have inspired me to keep making tiny stuff.  You might want to grab a snack and take a peek at their Flickr sites, blogs and Etsy shops!

Patchwork Indie Arts and Crafts Festival

I’m so excited!  I get to go to Patchwork in Santa Ana!  I’ve been working like crazy to get enough stuff together and have a lot of awesome inventory for the show.   I’ve been making some really cute fudge covered ice cream treats (remember Dove Bars?) with gooey fudge dripping down over ice cream on a stick!  I also added cute crystal embellishments to make them ultra-girly!  I’ll take pictures tonight and post them later.

I finished these about a week ago, but finally took some pictures!  I was preparing for the Silverlake Art, Craft and Vintage Market and was also listing a bunch of new stuff on my Etsy store.  I didn’t make the crazy pink Sno Ball cakes and that will be later (possibly this weekend…).  I did, however, make yellowy vanilla and chocolate Zingers with the authentic “plasticky” icing that you can peel off and use as a replacement for wallpaper adhesive.  I also had to make some Twinkies with toasted bottoms and the three spots on the bottom where they inject the creamy white filling stuff!

I absolutely have to mention a fellow Etsean that sells the absolute most awesome-est cards!  They’re kind of Terry Gilliam-esque – remember the intros to Monty Python’s Flying Circus?  These way-too-funny cards are by Frantic Meerkat.  This is my favorite card, I just haven’t found the right person to send it to! The Universal Question...

Snacky Goodness

So I’m here in sunny Lancaster, California doing biology surveys.  In between babysitting construction workers and spending the evenings in my hotel room, I’ve had a lot of time to think of ideas for my next Sculpey poly clay adventures.  I want to do a series of teeny tiny junk food snack cakes.  I already have some Hostess chocolate cupcake charms in my Esty shop and I want to do more!

So I must admit that during my entire four years of high school I lived on fatty snacky cakes from the vending machine.  By the way, a packet of Ding Dongs, Funyuns and a bottle of Coca-Cola still sounds pretty yummy… geez, I really need to get some dinner. Anyway, I’m thinking of making radioactive pink Sno Balls, yellowy vanilla-ish Zingers, mushy gooey Suzy Qs, and of course, the never-say-die Twinkie!

As a good scientist, I was doing research (yeah, I do research on my charm projects, so I’m a geek) on my iPhone while sitting in the truck and came across a bunch of uses… er, recipes? for Hostess snack cakes.  So for all you gourmet foodies and DIYers in craft land, did you know you can make an x-mas ornament from a Sno Ball with some licorice, gumdrops and a tub of white frosting?

How about Twinkie sushi?  I have a feeling that leathery fruit-roll ups don’t quite match well with the spongy creamyness of a Twinkie…

Even better!  Impress (or drive away) your relatives at the next family reunion with Patriotic Twinkie Pie!  I think it would be too tacky to serve this at a 4th of July picnic but that’s just my opinon.
